Haut(bois) off the Press: How to Dress for an Audition

When it comes to auditioning for a role, there are two main things you should focus on: finding the best way to show off your talents and being comfortable in whatever outfit you choose. I can't help with talent (not yet), but here are some tips for dressing for auditions:

Women: "Business chic" is your friend here. Men: Let's keep it simple and classic with a suit and tie.

women should wear a dress or skirt that is comfortable and easy to move around in

men should wear a suit that is well fitted and not too loose

When it comes to dressing for an audition, there are a few things you can do to make sure you look your best. First and foremost, women should wear business chic. Low-cut tops are not appropriate in most cases and dresses or skirts that are comfortable but also easy to move around in are preferred over pantsuits (unless specifically requested). Men should keep it simple and classic with a suit and tie—nothing too flashy or casual.

In general, avoid anything that will draw attention away from your face or body when auditioning—that means no bold prints or bright colors! In terms of fabrics, cotton is always a safe bet because it's breathable but still looks professional enough for an interview.

You might be tempted to wear something more revealing than usual when going on auditions because "it will get me noticed," but this could actually hurt your chances of getting hired instead of helping them! So while it may seem like the most logical thing to do at first glance because everyone else seems like they're doing it too... think again before making any rash decisions about what kind of clothing items (or lack thereof) you'll be wearing during this next round of interviews!

Consider comfort when deciding what to wear. You're going to have to be able to breathe, and you're definitely going to have to be able to walk or run around in these shoes!

If you’re preparing for an audition, there are lots of things to consider when choosing your outfit. But one thing that should always be at the forefront of your mind is comfort! You can’t perform well if you’re uncomfortable in what you’re wearing. That being said, don’t go out and buy a pair of ballet flats just because they look cute on stage—you need something practical and comfortable enough to wear throughout the entire day or night.

Think about what kind of performance you are going to be doing on stage: Will it involve running around? Jumping around? Dancing? If so, make sure whatever shoes you choose have rubber soles that will provide traction and support as well as cushiony insoles for comfort (and prevent calluses). A good pair of dance sneakers (or even dress shoes) is also important because they will provide added ankle support while still allowing freedom and flexibility in movement—plus they'll give some extra height too! Finally...think about how much time off these shoes might take up during rehearsal or performance times!

No matter what you do, feeling confident in what you wear is the most important thing for this day. This is true not only for clothes; if you have a go-to performance-day hair style or makeup look, go ahead and bring out your A-game!

confidence is key

confidence is not just about clothes, but also about hair and makeup

if you have a go-to look, bring it out for auditions

Bring out your best look.

If you’re like me, there are certain looks that instantly make us feel more at ease on stage. Maybe it’s an easy updo with a bold red lip? Maybe it’s a navy dress with sparkly earrings? Whatever your favorite look might be, the more prepared we feel in our own skin when we get up there and sing our hearts out, the better!

Dress however makes you feel comfortable and confident - as long as it's within reason.

dress to the occasion

dress for the job you want, not the job you have

dress for the weather

dress for your body type

dress for your age

dress for your personality

dress for your profession

  • Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.

In other words: dress accordingly for your dream role and then go from there!

Conclusion

Okay, so now it's time to make your way over there. But before you go, remember these tips:

Wear whatever

makes you feel the most comfortable and confident on performance days! This is especially important for auditions because if you're feeling uncomfortable in what you're wearing then it will show on camera or in person with whoever might be watching. Also consider comfort when deciding what shoes would work best for walking/running around during this day as well as how long it will take for getting ready - if there are going to be hours spent waiting around before your turn comes up then make sure those shoes don't pinch too much! Lastly: no matter what happens during this day (good or bad), always remember that feeling confident is key no matter what anyone thinks about how good we look while performing (or not performing).
